Accidents are a part of life. Whether while exercising, playing sports, or working, injury to the mouth can occur without warning. In some situations, prompt medical or dental attention is required to achieve the best possible outcome. Washington Street Dentistry treats urgent cases quickly and efficiently. If you, or a loved one, experience an urgent dental situation, call our office at (317) 333-6788. We can arrange for immediate care when necessary, provide temporary solutions for relief until you can be seen, and help you determine if medical attention is necessary.

Dr. Church and the team at Washington Street Dentistry understand that situations arise in which immediate care is needed.

In many situations, people feel it is better to put off seeing a professional for a problem. Our view is that if a tooth or other oral structure is causing pain, you need prompt care. Even minor injuries that seem like they can wait have the potential to cause tissue damage. Appropriate action on your part can facilitate a speedy recovery from pain and the optimal return to your healthiest smile.

What to do in case of dental emergencies and where to go in Indianapolis for care

  • Soft tissue injuries such as cuts to the tongue or cheek may result in alarming bleeding. Such an injury should be assessed by your dentist. In addition to contacting our office right away, you can rinse with warm salty water, cover the wound with gauze, and apply gentle pressure to stop bleeding.
  • A chipped or broken tooth may cause pain and swelling. Call your dentist to schedule an urgent visit, rinse the mouth with warm water, and apply a cold compress if pain and swelling occur. If needed, over the counter pain reducing medication may be taken.
  • Injury that results in a tooth being knocked out requires immediate attention. The lost tooth must be handled with great care. Touch only the crown of the tooth, never the root. If the tooth cannot be reinserted into the socket after it has been gently cleaned with water or milk, it can be kept in the mouth, between the cheek and gums, or in a small amount of milk until you reach our office. Time is of the essence when treating a lost tooth, so it is vitally important to contact us at (317) 333-6788 immediately after injury.
  • Jaw injury may be significant and should be assessed by a medical professional right away in order to rule out fracture.

Dr. Church and the team at Washington Street Dentistry understand that situations arise in which immediate care is needed. We are here to help you navigate stressful dental situations, and provide all levels of care to help you keep your smile healthy and attractive. Contact our office for your visit.
